CHIRINGAS: Memorial Para Nuestros Espacios Queer

Taking place during Pride month, “CHIRINGAS” was a site-based kite-building workshop and a performance piece that took place between El Morro and el Cuartel de Ballajá: a memorial service for celebrating the LGBTQ+ venues that have closed in Old San Juan. It was open for members and allies of the LGBTQ community in Puerto Rico on Saturday, June 15, 2019. Participants ranged in ages, skin colors, ethnicities, genders, family structures and orientations, making it a truly diverse event. More information on “CHIRINGAS” can be found here. The following photographs were taken by José Nestor Rodríguez , Regner Ramos and Kleanthis Kyriakou.

The event was produced and organized by Dr Regner Ramos and Divine III, and supported by the State Historic Preservation Office and the University of Puerto Rico - Río Piedras.
